Magherafelt 2-2 Castledawson 0-4
Magherafelt U14 Ladies footballers entertained neighbours Castledawson at Rossa Park on Sunday afternoon in a hard fought encounter. The visitors started better and Magherafelt, minus some regulars found themselves two points down within ten minutes. Castledawson were on top at this stage and it required some excellent defending from Lauran Kearns and Eaodaoin Smylie to keep Rossa from going further behind. Gradually Magherafelt began to come into the game with Ciara Monaghan and Eimear Bradley getting on top in the half back line and pushing their team forward. Courtney Brown was starting to run at the Castledawson defence and was rewarded with a well taken point. Castledawson responded with a point of their own and then came close to scoring a goal when they shot narrowly wide. Magherafelt finished the half on top and Niamh Kerr scored an excellent point to leave the half time score Rossa 0-2 Castledawson 0-3.
Magherafelt started the second half strongly and were rewarded when Courtney Brown scored a fine goal , several other chances were missed and Castledawson came back with a point to leave just one between the teams. The visitors could have taken the lead but for a fine save from Megan Mackle and almost immediately Rossa scored a second goal with Courtney Brown again finding the net.
The visitors pushed hard to get back in the game but Clare Shields and Nira Walls were dominant and Magherafelt held on for a hard won victory.
