  • Table Quiz

On Friday night past Rossa held a very successful Table Quiz with approximately 150 participants, packing out the mac Flynn Suite, making up 25 teams. The eventual winners were Team Down and team captain Kathleen Kerr accepted the trophy on their behalf. Over £500 was raised and much thanks must go to all who took part and to the quizmaster Philip Kerr. However it must be noted that Sean Kerr was the man responsible for the huge turnout, so many thanks to him and we hope to see as many teams in a months time for the next one,
It is planned for Friday 9th April. Again we would ask any interested teams to register by email to the website or let Sean Kerr know on 07808 736 595. An update of team captains will appear shortly on the website (10 teams have already registered this week)

    Half time score
    Clan 2.05 Magherafelt 0.04
Magherafelt made the long journey to Lurgan for the final round of the Ulster league. The match was played in ideal weather conditions although the underfoot conditions left a lot to be desired. Magherafelt lost the toss and had to play into a slight breeze in the first half. Jared Monaghan and Ciaron McGlone opened the scoring for the visitors but Clan quickly replied with three points on the trot to take a one point lead after nine minutes. The game developed into a good physical battle as both teams struggled to open up play due to the ground conditions. Clan Na gael then hit a purple patch scoring two well worked goals to open a commanding lead. Frank Niblock eased Magherafelt back into the match courtesy of two frees but the Rossas were also guilty of some woeful shooting and poor long distance frees. Clan finished the scoring with two well taken long range points to go in at half time leading by seven.
The Rossa with the assistance of the breeze opened the scoring with a Niblock point before Monaghan drove through the middle to blast to the net. Magherafelt had got the start they desired and suddenly the game was on. Declan McErlean then scored a great goal on his senior debut and further points from Niblock and McGlone left only two points between the sides midway through the half. Both teams took turns scoring and the game hung nicely in the balance. Clan were two points up going into the last five minutes when their goal keeper misplaced a kick out. Declan McErlean received the ball thirty metres out and drove into the square to slot home the winning score. Overall this was a very commendable battling performance with dogged persistence and a willingness to play to the final whistle resulting in a good away win.

    u14 Boys v Bellaghy Report

Rossa suffered a heavy defeat at Bellaghy on Sunday in their third match of the Derry 2010 Feile Na NoG .They got off to a poor start conceding an early penalty. However, Cathan Quinn in the Rossa goal limited the damage to one point by pushing the ball over the bar from the spot kick. An excellent point from Shea Murphy soon had the teams on level terms but then Bellaghy took control of the game with 4 unanswered points. In the last five minutes of the first half the Rossa players matched Bellaghy throughout the field and a goal from Shea Murphy reduced the deficit to 2 points leaving Rossa trailing by 0-6 to 1-1 at the break.

Rossa went into the second half with renewed confidence but two quick goals followed by a second Bellaghy penalty ended this game as a competition. A late consolation goal from Shea Murphy helped reduce the deficit in what was a disappointing performance from Rossa. Final score Bellaghy 4-9 Rossa 2-2.

Rossa’s next competitive game will be on 27 March at Home to Slaughneill. This break will give the players time to put in some hard training and hopefully improve their team performance. Training continues, as usual, on Thursday at 6pm in Meadowbank Sports Arena.
